摘要：A sensor for measuring the velocity components of particles in an atmosphericvolume which comprises means for generating first and second coherent radiation beams,means for directing said first and second radiation beams towards said particles, saidbeams being spaced apart and positioned to intersect each other in the region of saidparticles, said particles having a longitudinal velocity component along the bisector ofsaid beams and a transverse velocity component perpendicular thereto, means forreceiving Doppler-shifted radiation back- scattered from said first and second beams, areference beam of radiation temporally coherent to said first and second coherentbeams, means for mixing said temporally coherent, reference radiation with said receivedDoppler-shifted radiation for detecting a beat frequency spectrum, and means
connected to receive said beat frequency spectrum for determining from the frequencyvalues of said beat frequency spectrum, the average longitudinal and transverse velocitycomponents of said particles. A method of measuring the velocity components ofparticles utilizing separate radiation beams and a radiation reference source used as alocal oscillator is also disclosed.
