The Loss of Freedom Makes a Better Life
I. Introduction to the Phenomena of the Loss of Freedom
Society is developing rapidly as well as the innovation of science and technology, which gives rise to the fact that people’s physical life, especially spiritual conception grows gradually. And recently there has been a problem people cannot neglect that people are trapped into some circumstances in order that they lose their freedom.
When students go to school to study in the classroom, they will lose the freedom of going outside to enjoy the beauty of nature and the happiness of playing games; When people are busy with work, they will lose the freedom of getting together with friends; When the lovers get married, they will lose the freedom of the right of making friends with the opposite sex casually…
The loss of freedom, however, makes a better life. And this thesis will emphasize on the research question that how the loss of freedom makes a better life.
II. Analysis of the Reason of the Loss of Freedom A. Reasons of sacrificing freedom
It is not difficult to imagine a world short of freedom. But, first and foremost, people should make sense of the definition of freedom. Freedom means a state of being free, not being under control. What’s more, it means one owns the power to do, say, think, or write whatever

one wants to. So, if losing freedom, human beings can receive more than what they can get when they own freedom. It is worthy of choosing to lose freedom to create a better life.
Why do we have to choose so? We do not choose to be born. We do not choose our parents. We do not choose our historical epoch, the country of our birth, or the immediate circumstances of our upbringing. We do not, most of us, choose to die; nor do we choose the time or conditions of our death. But within all these realm of choicelessness, we do choose how we shall live: being free to enjoy the feeling in drift or sacrificing the freedom to get something more important in return.
We decide what is important and what is trivial in life. We decide that what makes us significant is either what we do or what we refuse to do. But no matter how indifferent the universe may be to our choices and decisions, these choices and decisions are ours to make. And as we decide and choose to sacrifice our freedom, so our lives formed gloriously. B. Reasons of making a better life
A person can spend almost twenty years studying in school. And some people think that they have lost freedom and they wonder why they have to be locked in the cage of books. What students learn in class is knowledge that can instruct, comfort and console us. Though we lost the right of being free, we have got a good friend---knowledge. Knowledge is often the best urn of a life enshrining the best that life could think out; for

the world of a man’s life is, for the most part, but the world of his thoughts. Thus knowledge are treasuries of good words, the golden thoughts, which, remembered and cherished, become our constant companions and comforters. Temples and statues decay, but knowledge survives. Knowledge introduces us into the best society. It brings us into the greatest minds that have ever lived. We exchange our freedom of happily playing outside for knowledge. But it’s worth. Experiences we learn in school can well instruct us in times of adversity or distress in order to make a better life.
Similarly, when people are busy with work, they will lose the freedom of getting together with friends, enjoying the beautiful scenes and taking part in entertainment activities. Workers can be divided into two classes: firstly those whose work is work and whose pleasure is pleasure; and secondly, those whose work and pleasure are one. The former are the majority. The long hours in office bring with them as their reward and they have a keen appetite for freedom even in its simplest forms of entertainment activities. The latter are fortunate persons, so we can strive to become this kind of people so that the loss of freedom can be compensated. As we watch in the movie of “The Devil Wears Prada”, when we walk out of school, we are eager to work with passion and perspiration. But the reality will strike us heavily and ruin our expectation of the future: staying up to prepare for our work, breathless pressure,

irritable boss’s blames and fierce competition of colleagues. We do not have the power to freely control our life, but we get financial support from work. We lose freedom. We get status and insurance of creating a better life both for ourselves and our next generations.
Some people always say that marriage is the tomb of love; others believe that marriage is the shackle of freedom. On the contrary, getting married is a trial of love. We lost the freedom of the right of making friends with the opposite sex casually, but we make our love sublimate in practical experience. We have sought marriage, first, because love brings ecstasy---ecstasy so great that I would often have sacrificed all the best life for a few hours of this joy. Marriage can relieve loneliness, in which people ask help for no one when they are sick; people cannot pour out their pressures they are suffering from work; and people fine no one to stand aside to share the joy or happiness they have come across. When someone says he lost freedom in marriage, he actually does not make sense of the deep meaning of love. When the one in your life, to some extent, put you under control, he or she is really caring about you rather than make you fall in an annoying circumstance. Marriage gives more than people can imagine that man and wife help each other to build a better life and the troublesome problems they will face is just the catalyst of their affection. III.
