Learn the good qualities of Yuan Long and map their minds to make contributions to our country. Teaching Key Points:

Member and master new words and phrases and understand the passage. Teaching Difficult Points:

1) Foster students’ interest of reading passage and improve their reading ability. 2) How to help students learn more about agriculture. Teaching methods:

Communicative approach, task-based teaching method, audio-lingual method Teaching Procedures: Step 1: Warming up and lead-in 1. Daily greeting.

2. Revise the warming up with the following question, meanwhile show them pictures. How do you think to grow our main food--rice?

1) First, the farmers plow the field. They have to make the soil loose enough to plant crops. 2) Second, grow some young plants.

3) Third, they insert the young plants into the loose field. 4) At last, they will get the harvest Step 2: Pre-reading

Enjoy a short video about Yuan Longping, the father of Hybrid Rice. And then predict what will this passage mainly tell us?

Step 3: While-reading

1. Global reading

(1) Read the passage sum up the main idea of each paragraph. At the same time, instruct them to complete the personal information on exercise1.

1. Retell the passage according the key words. Encourage several students to retell.

2. Discussion. If you had the chance to do something to help end hunger in the world, what would you do ? Step5: Summary and Homework

Summary: Time is running out. Today we learned about agriculture. And we also read about Dr Yuan. We can learn something great from him.
