Celebrating the Spring Festival with My Family

The Spring Festival is the most important holiday in China and my favorite time of the year! It's when families come together to celebrate the new year with amazing food, fun traditions, and spending quality time with loved ones. This year's Spring Festival was extra special for me and my family. The preparations actually started a few weeks before the holiday itself. My mom is an amazing cook and she spent many hours in the kitchen making all of our favorite dishes. There were plates piled high with dumplings, noodles, spring rolls, and so many other delicious foods. The house was filled with the most mouthwatering smells!

My dad took me to the flower market to pick out the perfect decorations for our home. We got a bright red chinese knot to hang on the door for good luck. We also picked out a miniature cherry blossom tree and a kumquat plant, which are symbols of prosperity. Setting up the decorations with my dad was one of my favorite traditions.

A few days before the new year, it was time for the annual deep cleaning of our home. Even my little brother helped by

wiping down the furniture and sweeping the floors. We wanted to sweep away any bad luck from the old year. Once everything was sparkling clean, we could relax and enjoy the celebrations. On New Year's Eve, we gathered together for the annual reunion dinner. This is the biggest meal of the entire year! We had a huge feast with all of my favorite foods that my mom prepared. There was a whole crispy duck, sweet and sour pork, beef and vegetable stir fry, noodles, dumplings, spring rolls, and so much more. We ate until we couldn't eat another bite! After our big meal, we watched the New Year's Gala on TV. It's a special variety show that airs every year with singing, dancing, comedy acts, and more. Some of the traditions are pretty silly but so much fun - like wearing red underwear and giving kids money in red envelopes for good luck. At midnight, we all headed outside to watch the beautiful fireworks show and celebrate the new year!

The next day was the first day of the new year, so we had another delicious breakfast and dinner together as a family. I got plenty of lucky red envelopes with money from my parents and grandparents. My grandparents also gave me a few new toys and books as gifts. I spent most of the day playing games and

watching TV shows with my little brother. Getting to relax and spend time together was the best part.

Over the next few days, we visited my aunt and uncle's house and my cousins came over to our place to celebrate. We set off firecrackers in the streets, which is supposed to scare away evil spirits and bad luck. It makes such a loud noise but it's exciting and fun! My cousins and I had a blast running around and playing together.

One of the last traditions we did was eating yuan xiao, which are sweet dumplings made of sticky rice. They're stuffed with different fillings like sesame, red bean paste, and even chocolate! On the 15th day of the new year, we carried lanterns and went to the temple fairs and festivals around the city. I got to see amazing acrobats, dragon dances, and try lots of yummy street food. Seeing all the colorful lanterns glowing in the night sky was so beautiful.

By the end of the holiday, I was completely stuffed from all the incredible food and treats! My family and I had made so many wonderful memories. Even though I was sad to see the Spring Festival end, I know we'll get to celebrate again with all the same fun traditions next year. It's my favorite time because

we can all come together and celebrate as a family. I'm already counting down the days until next year's Spring Festival!
